For fourteen and a half years, Kitty Ramirez was many things: a beloved companion, a source of comfort, a devoted friend, a professional breakfast negotiator, and— perhaps most importantly— a living piece of home.

Kitty came into his family’s life as a kitten, and from then on, they were rarely far apart. Affectionately known as “Baby Boy” and “My Son,” Kitty grew alongside his family and remained a steady presence through some of the greatest joys and deepest losses of their lives. When people they loved were no longer there to provide comfort, Kitty was. He became more than a companion; he was a connection to the people, memories, and chapters of life that came before.

Of course, Kitty also made sure nobody mistook “deeply sentimental family treasure” for “perfectly behaved gentleman.”

Described lovingly as a “former fat boy,” Kitty knew exactly how he preferred his household to operate. Breakfast was to be served promptly, followed by demands for second breakfast, morning socializing, dinner, and— naturally— bed. He enjoyed window watching, sunbathing, sleeping beside his people, catnip, wet food, and cuddling with essentially anyone willing to pet him. He was also known to sit on the edge of the tub simply to keep someone company.

And then there was the refrigerator.

On one particularly memorable occasion, Kitty managed to sneak inside so quickly and quietly that no one saw him. Less than two minutes later, the refrigerator was opened again to reveal Kitty simply lying there— perfectly content with his decisions and apparently unconcerned by the commotion he had caused.

That was Kitty: loving, stubborn, funny, comforting, and always unmistakably himself.

He shared his life with his mom, Arisa; his "dad," Lauren; Sophia and Savannah; and his feline best friend, Marley. His favorite person was his mom, but his love reached throughout the family. Kitty seemed to possess an uncanny ability to know when someone needed him. As his family remembers him, “He just wanted to make sure everyone felt love.”

Even his final goodbye reflected the place Kitty held within his family. He was cared for with the same tenderness he had given them throughout his life, surrounded by people who understood that saying goodbye to him meant saying goodbye not only to a beloved cat, but to a companion who had carried pieces of their family story for more than fourteen years.

Kitty Ramirez passed on September 14, 2026, leaving behind a family profoundly changed by having loved him— and profoundly grateful that they got to call him theirs.

His mom leaves him with the words that perhaps say it best:

“Kitty, I’m so grateful I got to call you mine. I wouldn’t have made it here without you. I wish you could have lived forever with me. I love you to the moon and back, baby boy.”

And for a cat whose greatest gift was making sure everyone around him felt loved, there may be no more fitting legacy than this:

They did.
